Microblading Aftercare: Do’s And Don’ts

The microblading procedure involves making tiny hair-like strokes on your skin with a needle, basically making minor wounds in the skin so the pigment will stick. Knowing that, it's not hard to understand why aftercare is an essential step of microblading. You will need to make sure that your skin heals properly so there won't be any discoloration or swelling. Avoiding infections is also a priority. This is why microblading products geared for aftercare are often sought out, like the Skin Candy Aftercare Balm. They're made to help speed up healing and make the pigment last longer.

After the procedure, your skin will be red and sensitive. And it will take for it to heal. In fact, it can take around two weeks for the skin to appear healed. However, complete healing could take 4-6 weeks, depending on your age or your body's regeneration. Additionally, you will also need to do the following steps for aftercare.

  • Avoid getting the eyebrows wet for at least seven days. This includes keeping them dry when you take a shower and not doing anything that will make you excessively sweat. ( But maintain good hygiene)
  • Avoid using makeup for a week as well.
  • When the skin starts to scab, don't pick at it. Avoid itching or tugging it too.
  • Keep your hair away from the brow line.
  • Regularly apply any cream or balm provided by the technician or aesthetician.

You must also avoid the following 14 days after your procedure:

  • Swimming
  • Sauna
  • Sun tanning or salon tanning
  • Exposure to UV rays as it can cause fading
  • Any laser or chemical treatments
  • Creams that contain Retin-A or glycolic acid
  • Excessively drinking alcohol as it can slow down the healing process
  • Touching the eyebrows except for when applying an aftercare balm

What to expect

During the healing process, your eyebrows will go through some phases. Right after the procedure, your eyebrows will look very dark. Moreover, the skin underneath will appear red. The technician or aesthetician will usually sterilize your brows and apply a healing balm such as Skin Candy Aftercare Balm. They will also be providing you with one for home use.

Once the healing starts, the skin will scab. It can look like dandruff flakes or dry skin. But don't be alarmed! This is just how the body removes the dry skin from your eyebrows. Take care as well that you don't pick at the scabs. Just let your body do the work. Approximately 30 days after the procedure, you will see the final look of your new eyebrows.

After it has completely healed, you will still want to protect your skin. Make sure to apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to prevent the pigment from fading too quickly. And if you're using foundation, don't include the area of your healed eyebrows. If you do, your eyebrows will appear lighter.
